For me it is more about being the camera, you are looking around just as you would in real life. the game surrounds you just as real life does. This is why it is so hard to explain what VR really to people who have not tried it. One of the best VR genres is racing games, aint no motion control in those games.

And as soon as one mechanic becomes useless, you can run into a snowball of design decisions that feel useless or poorly thought out. For instance, when playing Half-Life: Alyx in non-VR, shooting is simplified so that the player only has to hold right click, aim the perfectly aligned sights at their target, and shoot.

Click “Settings” on the left-side navigation panel. Go to the “General” tab and scroll all the way down to see the version number. Within the settings menu on the Oculus PC app, click the

And honestly? A non-VR version would be 2 hours long. If you already have a PC that will run Alyx's specs (expensive in its own right) I'd check reviews on how HL:A works on an occulus quest 2. If you can get 90% of the game's experience while saving $700 on a headset/controls that seems worth it for a lifelong Half Life fan.
Keeping it simple, I really want to play this game however my Laptop specs are very low. I found a webpage (technical.city) that states I should be able to run it at low settings to a decent frame rate but it seems like a long shot. Half Life Alyx is easily one of my top games but without VR it wouldn't be good and levels like Jeff just wouldn't work with the traditional keyboard and mouse like presented in the video. The games encounters would also be far too easy with a keyboard and mouse as well. I'm happy people without VR sets are able to play this and I'm not hating on the devs for creating this but I dont think the game has the same effect on you without all the VR capabilities. You being in the game, actually controlling Alyx was a big reason for the game to be a good experience.
Sadly its the modding community to once again save a game from poor developement choices. This time by adding keyboard/mouse support for the half life fan base to actually play the title. Without need of VR gimmicks to boost VR headset sales; riding the decades build up on the half life 3 hype train. Thank you modders for your work.
Half-Life Alyx is probably the most immersive Half-Life game that ever existed. Not only can you interact with many objects just like in real life. You have to play with a VR headset to see everything in the game in 3D and feel like you are in the game. Playing the game in VR can be a really nice experience, but not many people can play Half Just buy a Quest 2 if you have a half decent gaming PC.
